Managing SimpleFIN connections
The Settings → Connections page is where you add, replace, or remove the SimpleFIN connection that syncs your bank accounts.
What's on the page
When connected, you see:
- Status (Connected / Connection issue) and the last successful sync time.
- A Reset Connection button — re-paste a fresh setup token without losing your data.
- A Remove button — drop the connection but keep historical transactions.
Adding your first connection
If no bank is connected yet, the page shows Connect a bank. Click it, then:
- Open SimpleFIN (beta-bridge.simplefin.org) in a new tab.
- Sign in or create a SimpleFIN account.
- Add a connection inside SimpleFIN, naming it MoneyVue.
- Pick the institutions and accounts to sync.
- Copy the setup token SimpleFIN gives you.
- Paste the token into MoneyVue and click Connect.
The first sync runs automatically.
Reconnecting (rotating the setup token)
Use Reset Connection when:
- SimpleFIN reports an expired or revoked token.
- You changed which institutions are linked at SimpleFIN.
- Sync has been failing for several days.
Pasting a new token replaces the old one. Existing transactions stay; new syncs use the new token. You don't lose history.
Removing a connection
Click Remove to drop the link to SimpleFIN. After confirmation:
- Automatic syncing stops.
- Existing transactions and accounts stay in MoneyVue.
- You can keep using the app manually or reconnect later.
Sync errors
A red status icon and "Connection issue" mean SimpleFIN reported a problem on the last sync. Common causes: expired bank credentials, MFA challenge from the bank, or SimpleFIN itself being down. See Sync errors.
FAQ
Can I have multiple SimpleFIN connections? The setting is one-per-MoneyVue-account today. If you have accounts at multiple institutions, link them all in a single SimpleFIN connection — SimpleFIN supports many institutions per connection.
Will resetting a token cost me transaction history? No. The setup-token rotation is just a credential refresh. Transactions are stored in MoneyVue and stay there.
What if SimpleFIN itself is down? Sync fails until SimpleFIN recovers. Status updates automatically once the next sync succeeds.
