Creating your first budget
A budget in MoneyVue is just a target amount per category per month. You can set targets for as many or as few categories as you want — there is no obligation to budget every line.
Start small
- Pick three categories that drive most of your spending. (Often: groceries, restaurants, and gas.)
- Open the Budgets page and click into the current month.
- Set a target for each. Don't over-think the numbers — you can adjust month over month.
What the colors mean
- Green — you're under 75% of your target.
- Yellow — you're between 75% and 100%, or on pace to overspend by month-end.
- Red — you're over budget.
Next steps
- How rollover works — carry unspent budget forward each month.
- Sinking funds — save for irregular expenses like annual insurance.
- Budget settings — choose Flex or Category mode and set your default apply behavior.
