Show or hide unbudgeted categories
The Budgets page splits categories into Fixed, Flexible, and Non-monthly sections. Within each section, you can hide categories that don't have a budget set so the page focuses only on what you've planned.
Toggling within a section
Each of the three sections has its own toggle. Look for the row at the bottom of the section labeled Show N unbudgeted — clicking it expands the list to include every category in that style without a budget.
- Hide unbudgeted — collapse the list back to only categories with a budget.
- Show N unbudgeted — expand to show all categories, with the count of currently-hidden unbudgeted ones.
The toggles are independent per section. You can show unbudgeted Flexible categories while hiding them under Fixed.
When to show unbudgeted
Useful when you want to:
- Add a budget to a category you've been spending in but haven't planned for.
- See all spending across every category, budgeted or not.
- Audit categories that might be silently growing.
When to hide unbudgeted
Useful when you want to:
- Focus on just the categories you've committed to managing.
- Reduce visual clutter on a page with dozens of categories.
FAQ
Does hiding unbudgeted categories affect spending totals? No. Hidden rows are still counted in the section subtotals and the page total. The toggle only affects which rows are visible.
My toggle preference resets when I refresh — why? The toggle state is per-session only. MoneyVue does not persist it to the server or to local storage. Refreshing the page resets all three sections to their default (collapsed) state.
Where is the toggle? At the bottom of each Fixed, Flexible, and Non-monthly section. If you don't see it, every category in that section already has a budget — there's nothing to show.
