Your first sync

Once you've connected a bank through SimpleFIN, MoneyVue pulls in your accounts and transactions and lays out the dashboard.

What happens during the first sync

  1. MoneyVue exchanges your SimpleFIN setup token for an access URL.
  2. It fetches the list of accounts you authorized.
  3. For each account, it pulls recent transactions and the current balance.
  4. It runs auto-categorization and recurring-transaction detection in the background.

Most banks return 30 to 90 days of history on the first pull. Some return more, some less — that's controlled by the bank, not by MoneyVue.

How long it takes

The first sync typically completes in under a minute. If you have many accounts or a slow upstream institution, give it a few minutes before troubleshooting. The header shows a syncing indicator while the fetch is in progress.

What to do once the first sync finishes

  • Dashboard — confirm balances match your bank.
  • Transactions — skim recent activity. Categories may be mostly empty until you start tagging — that's expected. See Categorizing transactions.
  • Accounts — if any account looks wrong, fix the type or hide it from the Settings → Accounts page.

Re-syncing later

Click the sync icon in the header to pull new transactions. MoneyVue also syncs automatically in the background, but a manual sync gets the latest right now.

FAQ

Why don't I see all my transactions? SimpleFIN limits how far back banks return data. Older transactions can be added by importing an OFX/QFX file from your bank.

My balance looks slightly off — why? Pending charges may not have settled yet, or your bank may not have updated SimpleFIN since your last in-bank action. Re-sync after a few minutes.

Can I sync only some accounts? Yes. From Settings → Accounts you can hide accounts entirely or just exclude them from the Transactions view.
