Notes, tags, and reimbursable flags

Notes, tags, and flags let you annotate transactions without changing their category.

Notes

A note is free-text you attach to a single transaction — context, a receipt number, who you split the meal with. Notes show up as a small icon next to the description in the list and expand on hover or click.

To add or edit a note:

  1. Click the transaction to open the editor.
  2. Type into the Notes field.
  3. Save.

Tags

Tags are short labels you apply to a transaction to group it across categories. Examples: vacation-2026, tax, business. A transaction can have multiple tags.

To tag a transaction:

  1. Open the transaction (or select multiple and use Bulk edit).
  2. Type into the Tags field. Existing tags autocomplete; press enter to add a new one.
  3. Save.

Tags are useful for filtering — type a tag into the search bar to find every transaction labeled with it.

Reimbursable and reimbursement flags

Two checkboxes on the editor:

  • Reimbursable — money you spent that someone else owes you (e.g., a work expense).
  • Reimbursement — money you received as a payback for a previous reimbursable charge.

Reimbursable transactions roll up onto the Reimbursements page so you can see what's still outstanding.

FAQ

Can tags be hierarchical? No. Tags are flat strings. To group related tags, use a shared prefix — trip-paris, trip-tokyo.

Will tags or notes affect my budgets? No. Budgets only consider category, amount, and date. Tags and notes are for filtering and personal context.

Why doesn't a reimbursable transaction reduce my spending? Spending stays on the books at the original amount. Once a matching reimbursement transaction comes in, you can mark them paired on the Reimbursements page.
