Importing OFX or QFX files

Use OFX or QFX import to backfill history from a bank that doesn't return enough through SimpleFIN, or to bring in transactions from an account you don't sync.

Before you import

  1. Sign in to your bank's website and download a transaction file in OFX or QFX format. (Most banks call this "Quicken" or "Microsoft Money" download.)
  2. Pick a date range that covers what you want to import.
  3. Save the file somewhere you can find it — Downloads is fine.

Importing

  1. Open the Accounts page or the account's transaction page.
  2. Choose Import OFX/QFX for the account.
  3. Drop the file onto the upload zone, or click to browse.
  4. MoneyVue parses the file and shows a preview:
    • Importing to — the account name.
    • Transactions — count of transactions ready to import.
    • Date range — earliest to latest in the file.
    • Duplicates — transactions already in your account that will be skipped.
  5. Review the table. Uncheck any rows you don't want.
  6. Click Import.

Nothing is created until you click Import, so you can back out any time during preview.

Duplicate detection

MoneyVue compares each row in the file to existing transactions in the account by date, amount, and description. Likely duplicates are flagged and skipped by default.

After importing

Imported transactions behave like synced ones — they show up in budgets, reports, recurring detection, and rules. You can categorize, split, edit, or delete them.

FAQ

Why doesn't MoneyVue support CSV? OFX and QFX have a stable schema with date, amount, description, and bank-assigned IDs. CSV varies wildly between banks and is much harder to parse reliably.

My bank only offers QBO files — can I use those? QBO is OFX-with-an-extra-header. Many work as-is. If yours doesn't, save it with a .ofx extension and try again.

What happens if I import the same file twice? The duplicate detector flags every row as already-imported and you'll see zero new transactions. Re-importing is safe.
