Sync errors
When a sync fails, MoneyVue surfaces the error in the Settings → Connections page and on the dashboard. Most failures are recoverable in a minute or two.
What you might see
- "Connection issue" — SimpleFIN returned an error on the last sync.
- A red sync icon in the header — the last attempt failed; click to retry.
- "Bank requires re-authentication" — your bank's session at SimpleFIN expired or its login policy changed.
First step — retry
Click the sync icon in the header to re-run the sync. Many transient failures (rate limiting, brief outages, slow upstream banks) clear on the next attempt.
Re-authenticating with your bank
If retries don't help and the message points at the bank:
- Open SimpleFIN at beta-bridge.simplefin.org.
- Find the institution and complete any pending reconnection prompts (re-enter the bank password, complete an MFA challenge, accept new terms).
- Once SimpleFIN shows the institution as healthy, return to MoneyVue and re-sync.
You usually do not need to rotate the setup token for an institution-level re-auth.
Rotating the setup token
If sync stays broken even after re-authenticating in SimpleFIN, rotate the token:
- In SimpleFIN, generate a new setup token.
- In MoneyVue, Settings → Connections → Reset Connection.
- Paste the new token and save.
History stays — only the credential refreshes. See Managing SimpleFIN connections.
When SimpleFIN itself is down
The SimpleFIN service itself occasionally has outages. If the SimpleFIN status page shows a problem, wait for them to recover; MoneyVue can't sync past their outage.
Still stuck
If retry, re-auth, and token rotation all fail:
- Check Settings → Connections for a more specific error message.
- Try connecting a single test account at SimpleFIN to isolate whether the bank or SimpleFIN is the issue.
- Contact MoneyVue support with the error message and the institution name. See Contacting support.
FAQ
My old transactions disappeared during a re-auth — what happened? They didn't. Existing transactions are stored in MoneyVue and aren't tied to whether SimpleFIN is currently up.
Why is one account syncing fine but another not? Banks fail independently. SimpleFIN reports per-institution health. Re-authenticate just the failing one.
Can I disable auto-sync entirely? Removing the SimpleFIN connection stops automatic syncing. You can still use the app manually.
